Last summer, 2021, I was on my annual trek to the towering Rocky Mountains. At 10,000′ with layer upon layer of beautiful mountains all around me, I am in heaven. I stay in the little town of Breckenridge. The storefronts have that old-west character. The stores are not the chain store variety. I just love this town and the Rocky Mountains.
While shopping at one of my favorite stores, which has AMAZINGLY large and magnificent geodes, fossils, and art, I was commenting on how I work with miniatures of the specimens they had in their store. The gentleman I was visiting with carefully looked at the drusy necklace I was wearing, even turning it over to look at the backside and pronounced “Yes, your work would sell here.” That certainly was exciting news, because my eclectic pieces feature many of the elements that their store features in a giant version. Yes, Breckenridge Jewelers was a good fit!
My love of the unique gifts Mother Nature has for us leads me to use drusys, because the tiny crystals sparkle so naturally. I also have series featuring Fossilized Palm Wood, Carved Boulder Opal, Keshi Pearls, and Pyrite and Slate. These materials stretch our idea of jewelry that we ourselves could own, wear and enjoy!
I have had great fun with the Pyrite and Slate collection specifically. These pieces are never ending in the patterns and glitter they offer. Each one begs for your attention. The store, Jewels on Main, thought so too. They are the partner store of Breckenridge Jewelers. I built out my Pyrite and Slate collection for them last winter.
When I said I do the miniature version of the Breckenridge collections, consider this Pyrite specimen in relation to the crystals in my jewelry.
Isn’t Mother Nature wonderful?
